Earth Month Proclamation 2014

 

Mayor Brede will kick off Earth Month at his Environmental Awareness Month Proclamation (pic from 2012 Proclamation posted),  April 1, 10 am at Rotunda of the Government Center. This Proclamation celebrates the many positive environmental events occurring in Rochester this spring including the city-wide litter pick up campaign “Let’s Make Rochester A Litter Bit Better”,  12th Annual Arbor Day Celebration, the 2014 Mayor’s Urban Forestry Volunteer Award Winners, and more Earth-friendly events!

2014 Environmental Awareness Month Proclamation

WHEREAS,

Earth Day is Tuesday, April 22, 2014 and Arbor Day is Friday, April 25, 2014; and

WHEREAS,

Earth Day and Arbor Day inspire many organizations to host environmental events to help raise awareness of environmental issues during the month of April; and

WHEREAS,

several environmental events have been planned in Rochester during the month of April; and

WHEREAS,

The Mayor’s Urban Forestry Volunteer Awards are presented to volunteers and businesses for branching out and helping to grow Rochester’s urban forest working with the RNeighborWoods program, April 1, 10am.; and

WHEREAS,

RNeighborWoods will hold Citizen Forester Training for people of all ages on Saturday, April 12th  from 8am to Noon at Quarry Hill Nature Center; and

WHEREAS,

The Rochester Public Library will host Earth Day story time on April 22nd at 6:30pm and April 23rd at 10am, and the Art Room will offer leaf rubbings on April 22th and 23rd ; and

WHEREAS,

Citizens will Help Make Rochester A Litter Bit Better! by collecting litter throughout the City between Saturday, April 19th  through Saturday April 26th; and

WHEREAS,

Rochester Public Utilities’ 12th Annual Arbor Day Celebration, with partners Maier Forest and Tree and Rochester Park & Recreation, will be held on Friday, April 25th at Three Links-Silver Lake Park (located at 840 7th Street NE) from 11am to 1pm. (RCTC Field House in case of bad weather.); and

WHEREAS,

RNeighborWoods will plant 25 boulevard trees with neighbors in a Northwest neighborhood on Saturday, May 3rd at 9:30am through the Neighborhood Tree Grant; and

WHEREAS,

Quarry Hill Nature Center will host an Earth Day Extravaganza on Tuesday, April 22th from 4pm to 6pm, a Native Plant Sale on Friday, April 25th from 4:30 to 6:30 pm, and Geo-Cache In & Trash Out on Saturday, April 26th from 10am to 3pm; and

WHEREAS,

The Right Tree Right Place Planting will take place on Friday, April 25th beginning at 12:30pm. Rochester Public Utilities will plant 15 to 20 power line compatible trees under power lines (Starting location is 19th Street NW & 20th Avenue NW); and

NOW THEREFORE:

I, Ardell F. Brede, Mayor of the city of Rochester do hereby proclaim the month of April to be

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS MONTH

and all citizens and businesses in Rochester are encouraged to participate in any or all of these events so as to make Rochester a better place to live.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the corporate seal of the City of Rochester to be affixed this 1st day of April, 2013.
