Rochester’s urban forest needs your help to plant some trees in the Viking Hills Park NE Rochester neighborhood. On Oct. 14 we’ll be planting 200 trees on the bouvlards of Tundra Lane, Heritage Place, Heartland Ave, and Ashland Lane NW. Tree types to be planted include Sugar and Red Maples, Ohio Buckeye, Service berry, Catalpa, Hackberry, Hawthorn, Gingko, Honey Locust , Kentucky Coffee, Ironwood, Pin and Bur Oak, American Linden and Hybrid elm. Due to possible storms, the East Park tree planting has been postponed until Tuesday, October 10, at 4:30 pm. All other information remains the same as detailed below. In February, Minnesota will host the Super Bowl, but on Tuesday, October 3, from 4:30-6 pm, Rochester will kick-off the celebration with a tree planting in East Park (1738 E Center St, Rochester, MN 55904) that is funded through a Super Bowl LII Urban Forestry Grant. Photo: The Kutzky Park Neighbors came out on Tuesday, September 27, to add some green leafy trees to their boulevards. This effort was done in several shifts of neighbors who got the last tree in the ground just prior to a dark, rain storm. Trees make good neighbors. Since its creation in 2004, RNeighborWoods has organized 6,206 volunteers to plant 7,030 trees on Rochester boulevards. So far, over 122 tons of litter has been collected by thousands of citizens since the program began in 2007. This year’s event will be April 22-29 and registration is now open.
