2011 Fall RNeighborWoods Community Tree Planting

2011 Fall RNeighborWoods Community Tree Planting

Once again Rochester neighbors rolled up their sleeves in October and planted trees, celebrating the great green community-building national NeighborWoods month. Thanks to over 215 volunteers, this month 141 trees have found homes in neighborhood boulevards.

October 1, was a gorgeous fall day and over 150 Rochester neighbors came out to plant 101 boulevard trees along 55th Street NW. We started a little after 9 am, all of the trees were in the ground by 11 am. Thanks to each of you who came out to lend a hand. What a difference your volunteerism has made to this neighborhood street!

Thanks to the help of several NW neighbors and RNeighbors volunteers, over 150 doors in this neighborhood were knocked on and neighbors invited out to participate in this community tree planting. Long-standing partner in our tree plantings, The Olmsted County Youth Commission did not disappoint turning out over 50 local high school student planters.

We continued our celebration of NeighborWoods month the next weekend. On October 8, over 65 neighbors in both the Slatterly and Crimson Ridge neighborhoods planted their winning Neighborhood Tree Grant award of 20 trees each.

Thanks to our partners and sponsors who made this event a reality. You can check out exactly what local and national businesses and organizations did what as well as check out the t-shirt graphic on our website. Special thanks to the national organizations the Alliance for Community Trees and the Home Depot Foundation who provided us with a mini-grant to help pay for the tye-dyed t-shirts that were given out to our tree-rific volunteers.
