National Night Out

National Night Out

It’s America’s Night Out Against Crime!

Tuesday, August 5, 2014

Get your neighbors together and have a National Night Out party! You can register your event at coptalklive.com, simply click on the National Night Out  (NNO) button and register.

National Night Out now involves over 37.8 million people and 16,124 communities from all fifty states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide. Last year Rochester took 3rd place in the National competition with 41,800 people pre-registered at 165 events. The goal for this year is 50,000 people pre-registered at 200 NNO events.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to:

    • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
    • Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
    • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
    • Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

    What Can You Do?

    • Talk to neighbors and organize a picnic.
    • Turn on porch lights on the day of National Night Out
    • Learn more about starting a neighborhood watch by calling the Crime Prevention Unit at (507) 328-6890.
    • Be outside to meet neighbors and turn off crime and drugs.
  • NNO has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation. Plus, the benefits your community will derive from NNO will most certainly extend well beyond the one night.

    This year again the Police and Fire Departments are working with Channel One Food Shelf and hopes to donate 2 ton of food.  Every NNO event is encouraged to have a food donation barrel and the next day, August 6, the food can be taken to the nearest Fire Department Station for Channel One to pick up.
