Northrop Street Mural Gets a Boost of Color

Northrop Street Mural Gets a Boost of Color

northrop street painting

On Wednesday, August 12th, the Goose Egg mural near the Northrop building and Goose Egg park received a makeover thanks to neighborhood volunteers and Summer of Service Teams. Part of the volunteer team added a fresh coat of paint to the mural, while another group of SOS kids held a “carnival” (complete with face painting) in the park for neighborhood kids.

Special thanks to the many volunteers, especially Summer of Service (SOS) youth, for making the repaint possible and to Robert, the extremely helpful facilities staff person at Northrop. Also a huge thank you to Todd and Maria of the Cimarron neighborhood for their help painting. It was the last mural painting of the summer, and a great way to wrap up a successful and colorful year. Thanks to all who participated and helped out in the 2009 season of RColorful Corners!

RColorful Corners is an RNeighbors program that adds color to neighborhoods and increases neighborhood ownership and pride through group projects such as street murals.

Thanks to our sponsors and partners of this grassroots program.

  • Safety Signs
They provided the barricades that are required by the City ordinance for blocking off the street.
  • Sherwin-Williams
This local business donated some really great brushes and tools that have allowed painters to make neighborhoods a little more colorful.
  • Summer of Service (SOS)
This Community Education program goes door to door with flyers inviting the neighbors prior to the painting and has not only helped with painting of the mural projects but also power-washes the street the day prior to painting.
  • City of Rochester
The City Traffic Engineer serves on the RColorful Corners committee and gives advice on mural locations and processes.
  • Neighborhood Association members
Each neighborhood has representation on the RColorful Corners committee and engages their neighborhood to participate in the project.
  • Panera Bread
Is an active supporter of RNeighbors’ projects and often supplies bagels and coffee for participants.
