RAW Summer 2012 Update

On Wednesday, August 22, over 40 arborists got some hands on training to work more efficiently in their urban forests.

Sean Gere instructed in the morning on practical ways to stay safe and make the most of time while working in trees. Tips to increase production, while always being conscious of safety were demonstrated. Gere is a member of the American Society of Consulting Arborists (ASCA), the Wisconsin Arborist Association (WAA) and a nationally recognized safety instructor. He has won multiple Wisconsin Arborist Association state climbing championships, and is the current ArborMaster North American Skills competition champion.

The afternoon was packed with an aerial rescue demonstration by the Rochester Fire Department complete with a ladder truck and the team of fire fighters specializing in rescues in high and underground spaces. Huge thanks to Mark Cummins for his organization of the aerial rescue training/demonstration, he coordinated and worked with Taylor and the Fire Department.

Taylor Hamel demonstrated aerial rescue techniques for fellow arborists and the importance of having the right tools for the right task. Hamel spent time showing efficiency of equipment such as pulleys, ropes and carabineers in different situations. Hamel is a professional arborist, a contract climber, involved as a speaker in tree climbing workshops, demonstrations, and educational courses, as well as the 2010 and 2012 ISA Minnesota Chapter Tree Climbing Champion.
