A Litter Bit Better! 2010 Trash Mountain

Trash Mountain 2007Photo: This was the first year of Litter Bit Better! and is the Trash Mountain of 2007. Over 1,384 volunteers city-wide scoured ditches, parks, and boulevards to pick up over 20,000 pounds of trash! Service groups, scout troops, faith groups, and 10 Neighborhood Associations registered and participated.

Have you been noticing the sudden appearance of green trash bags and blue recycling bag along roadsides, at parks, and in the hands of litter pickers?  This year, nearly 3,500 volunteers trolled for litter at over 310 locations covering 7,147 acres in Rochester during A Litter Bit Better! 2010

How much litter and recycling was plucked from our City grounds?  Come find out at the big weigh-in: 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 27th at the Waste Management scale house in Rochester (6670 11th Ave SW).  See this year’s “Trash Mountain” and just how much waste these committed volunteers kept out of our rivers and streams this year.  Steering committee members will be present to answer questions.
