A Splash of Color in the Cimarron Neighborhood

A Splash of Color in the Cimarron Neighborhood

IMG_0173webA rainy Friday night turned into a beautiful and sunny Saturday morning, perfect for the Cimarron Neighborhood street mural painting. Over 60 volunteers gathered to paint the mural near Cimarron Park on August 8th. The Cimarron neighborhood association wanted to express, through the patriotic art, that although their part of the city is made up of many different people, their vision for the future is a safe and unified neighborhood where all are welcome.

After the mural was complete, neighbors gathered in Cimarron Park for a potluck celebration complete with a visit from a fire truck. The purpose of the RColorful Corners street murals are to turn public space into neighborhood assets and to bring neighbors together in order to fuel communication and create healthy, happy, and safe places to live.

CimarronSpecial thanks to all the volunteers that participated in this event, especially our artist Greg Wimmer, city traffic engineer Gary Shannon, and the Cimarron Neighborhood Association, which helped to organize the event. Also thanks to Jimmy John’s for donating sandwiches for lunch. The mural wouldn’t have been possible without a large volunteer effort, so thanks to all who participated!

Thanks to our sponsors and partners of this grassroots program.
