Earth Month Proclamation 2013

 

Mayor Brede will kick off Earth Month at his Environmental Awareness Month Proclamation,  April 2, 10 am at Rotunda of the Government Center. This Proclamation celebrates the many positive environmental events occurring in Rochester this spring including the city-wide litter pick up campaign “Let’s Make Rochester A Litter Bit Better”,  Quarry Hill Nature Center’s Earth Day FANfair, the 2013 Mayor’s Urban Forestry Volunteer Award Winners, the RNeighborWoods Community Tree Planting  and more!

2013 Environmental Awareness Month Proclamation

WHEREAS,
Earth Day is Monday, April 22, 2013 and Arbor Day is Friday, April 26, 2013; and

WHEREAS,
Earth Day and Arbor Day inspire many organizations to host environmental events to help raise awareness of environmental issues during the month of April; and

WHEREAS,
several environmental events have been planned in Rochester during the month of April; and

WHEREAS,
The Mayor’s Urban Forestry Volunteer Awards are presented to two volunteers and one business for branching out and helping to grow Rochester’s urban forest working with the RNeighborWoods program, April 2, 10am.; and

WHEREAS,

Rochester Community and Technical College will host a lecture by Dr. Stanley A Temple entitled “Aldo Leopold, Phenology, and Climate Change” on Thursday, April 4 at 11:00am at the University Center Rochester’s Hill Theater and will offer a free public screening of “Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our Time” at University Center Rochester Room HS 131 at 2:00pm; and

WHEREAS,
RNeighborWoods will hold Citizen Forester Training for people of all ages on Saturday, April 13th  from 8am to 2pm at Quarry Hill Nature Center; and

WHEREAS,
The Rochester Public Library will show the children’s film The Lorax on Saturday, April 20th at 10:30am in the Library Auditorium; and

WHEREAS,
Citizens will Help Make Rochester A Litter Bit Better! by collecting litter throughout the City between Saturday, April 20th  through Saturday April 27th; and

WHEREAS,
Rochester Public Utilities’ 10th Annual Arbor Day Celebration, with partners Maier Forest and Tree and Rochester Park & Recreation, will be held on Friday, April 26th at Mayo Park from 11am to 1pm. (RCTC Field House in case of bad weather.); and

WHEREAS,

RNeighborWoods will plant 25 trees with neighbors in two different neighborhoods (50 total) on May 4th at 9am and 11am through the Neighborhood Tree Grant; and

WHEREAS,
Quarry Hill Nature Center will host an Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 27th from 12pm to 4pm; and

WHEREAS,

The Right Tree Right Place Planting will take place on Friday, April 26th beginning at 12:30pm. Together with Rochester Public Utilities, RNeighbors, and Rochester Park & Recreation, citizen volunteers will plant 50 power line compatible trees under power lines. (Meet at Mayo Park, East of Mayo Civic Center); and

WHEREAS,

RNeighborWoods will facilitate a Community Tree Planting of 200 boulevard and park trees sponsored by Rochester Public Utilities and the City of Rochester. The event will start at 8:30am on April 27th. (Meet at the east side of the parking lot next to Adventure Playground, 840 7th Street. NE.); and

WHEREAS,

Cascade Meadow Wetlands and Environmental Science Center will host a Pollination Celebration on Saturday, June 22nd from 10am to 4pm.
NOW THEREFORE:
I, Ardell F. Brede, Mayor of the city of Rochester do hereby proclaim the month of April to be

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS MONTH

and all citizens and businesses in Rochester are encouraged to participate in any or all of these events so as to make Rochester a better place to live.
