SEForestryWorkshop
A one-day workshop on managing forests will be offered on Saturday, March 15th at Saint Mary’s University in Winona.

Keynote Speaker: Hannah Texler, Regional Ecologist from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will speak on the trends and factors that are changing the Blufflands
landscape.

This workshop is designed to provide an opportunity for landowners to learn about forest management options and tools appropriate for the Bluffland’s forested landscape.

Climate change, invasive insects and plants, and land development are all changing our forests. What management considerations are needed in response to these changes? What can landowners do to address these challenges?

This year’s workshop will inform landowners about these and other environmental challenges. It will offer management suggestions you can implement in your woods. The workshop will provide information on habitat improvement, resource management services, timber sales, land protection, certification, ecological management, water resource management and more. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet other forest landowners and share your experiences. Come learn why your forest is so important to this magnificent landscape.

Some questions that will be answered are:

  • What should I do with my woods?
  • How do I improve habitat on my land?
  • What’s that shrub overtaking my woods?
  • What is timber on my land worth?
  • How do I arrange a timber sale?
  • Besides timber, why is my forest so important?
  • Do I need a management plan?
  • What financial resources are there to help me?
  • How can I protect my land from development?
  • Who do I call for help?
