MNLA Scholarships 2012

One student in the horticultural studies program at Rochester Community and Technical College recently received a scholarship sponsored by the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association (MNLA) Foundation.  The scholarship recipient is Brianna Johnson.

The MNLA scholarship program recognizes superior students enrolled in horticultural or landscape studies programs at several area colleges and universities.  The scholarships are designed by MNLA and its member companies to help grow future leaders in the nursery and landscape industry.

MNLA member firm the Rochester Arborist Workshop, based in Rochester, sponsored the scholarship for Johnson.
Five students in the horticultural studies program at University of Minnesota-St. Paul recently received scholarships sponsored by the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association (MNLA) Foundation.  The scholarship recipients are Morgan Mangelsen, Gregory Matthews, Alexander Plattes, Eric North and Korbin Paul.

The MNLA scholarship program recognizes superior students enrolled in horticultural or landscape studies programs at several area colleges and universities.  The scholarships are designed by MNLA and its member companies to help grow future leaders in the nursery and landscape industry.

Five MNLA member firms sponsored the scholarships for the University of Minnesota – St. Paul students:

  • ·         Robin D. Linder Memorial Scholarship, honoring the former owner of Linder’s Garden Center and Greenhouse, based in Roseville, sponsored the scholarship for Mangelsen.
  • ·         Bailey Nurseries, Inc., based in Newport, sponsored the scholarship for Matthews.
  • ·         Wilson’s Nursery, Inc., based in New Germany, sponsored the scholarship for Plattes.
  • ·         Rochester Arborist Workshop, based in Rochester, sponsored the scholarship for North.
  • ·         Tangletown Gardens LLC, based in Minneapolis, sponsored the scholarship for Paul.

To be eligible for an MNLA scholarship, applicants must possess a “C” grade average or better, present letters of recommendation from instructors and employers, and submit an essay stating their career goals and objectives.

The Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association is the state’s largest green industry trade association with over 1,200 member companies.  Members include nurseries, garden centers, landscape contractors, landscape designers, irrigation contractors, commercial flower growers, tree care specialists, professional gardening services, and turf and landscape management professionals.
