RLuau 2009

 Bredeweb

Former Mayor Hazama led Hula lessons with the assistance of Mayor Brede.

The third annual RLuau brought City officials and neighborhood leaders together to benefit RNeighbors, the Rochester Neighborhood Resource Center.

On Friday, September 25, over 250 people showed up in bright floral clothing to celebrate Rochester Neighborhoods, at the International Event Center.

Three local bands performed throughout the evening including Nodding Wild Onions, Peter Solo and the D’Sievers, and After School Special.

Media Sponsors that made the evening possible included Laser 101.7, Rochester Women’s Magazine, and The Printers. Dave Anderson from Laser was the emcee who moved the night along smoothly. Michon Rogers was the RLuau Chair and was assisted by the RNeighbors Board of Directors and staff in organizing the event.

What else did the evening hold?

There were over 70 silent auction items including time and talents, many donated from area businesses and neighborhood members. The present Mayor Brede and former Mayor Hazama led the crowd in a hula lesson. City Council President Denny Hanson served as comical host for the Neighborhood Feud game. Neighborhood members from Slatterly Park, Folwell, Kutzky Park, Hart Farms, Meadow Park, Historic Southwest, Cimarron, and Shorewood competed with such questions as “What neighborhood has the coolest neighbors.” The tasty menu included pulled pork sandwiches, tropical fruit, and coconut cake.

Mahalo nui loa (thank you) to everyone who came out to join in the island fun of the night.
