Litter Bit Better 2022 Summary

2022 was the 15th annual Litter Bit Better event. Each year, thousands of volunteers collect litter from across Rochester. Together in the past 15 years, individuals, service groups, businesses, scout troops, faith-based organizations, neighborhood associations, and families have worked together to remove over 321,286 pounds of litter from the community. Planting trees along streets maximizes the benefits we receive from trees and it is our goal to fill every vacant boulevard with trees. Tree intercept rainfall, shade pavement to cool neighborhoods, and extend the lifespan of our streets. Each year up to 1,000 boulevard trees are removed due to disease or damage. In the summer and fall of 2019 the RNeighbors Board took deliberate action to listen, learn, and identify feedback from the Board, neighborhood leaders, and city-affiliated members. 2022 Spring Neighborhood Tree Grant Now Available

Photo: In Spring of 2019, the RNeighborWoods team helped the Lowertown Neighbors plant 25 trees as winners of the Neighborhood Tree Grant. Trees make good neighbors. Since its creation in 2004, RNeighborWoods has organized 7,207 volunteers to plant 7,907 trees on Rochester boulevards. These trees provide multiple ecological and other public benefits including reducing Rochester’s carbon footprint. 2021 RNeighbors Neighborhood Project Grants

RNeighbors Neighborhood Project Grants reimburse up to $1,000 in costs for neighborhoods to complete projects that: Enhance a neighborhood’s livability and involvement Benefit the entire neighborhood Promote a strong sense of community. Be creative. These non-revenue producing projects can include, but are not limited to, identification signage, bike racks, mini libraries or food pantries, pocket park improvements, physical activity opportunities, butterfly & rain gardens, native plantscaping and public art projects. The RNeighbors office is temporarily closed until July 1, 2021, while the Executive Director is out on medical leave. The Movie in a Box is not available for reservation until 2022.
