Grant Writing Basics for Local Artists

If you are interested in applying for the CARES Artist Mural Grants this workshop will go over the basics and give some tips to submit your best application.

  • Submitting and formatting images of previous work
  • Addressing mural themes
  • Working with neighbors to complete your mural in the time of COVID-19

Presenter’s Bio

Mary Beth Magyar is an artist and teacher with a studio practice in Rochester, MN. Magyar works primarily in metal and ceramics, but draws, paints and does some printmaking with shows at Hutchinson Art Center in Spring 2021 and Phipps Art Center in Spring 2022. Magyar was awarded a 2020 Minnesota State Arts Board (MSAB) learning grant and an MSAB 2018 artists initiative grant. Southeast Minnesota Arts Commission (SEMAC) awarded Magyar an emerging artist grant in 2017. In addition to receiving these grants Magyar was a panelist for MSAB artists initiative grant for FY 2019 as well as a panelist for The Broadway Public Art project and VSA Minnesota in 2018. Magyar is scheduled to review MSAB Community Arts Organization grants this fall for FY 2021. Magyar has read over 200 grant applications and will provide help and tips for how to write a successful grant.
