RAW Winter 2012 Update

RAW Winter 2012 Update

On Thursday, February 16, 2012, the Rochester Arborist Workshop proved to be one of the one of the most widely attended programs of the year.  Over 200 urban foresters and arborists gathered from across six states to learn about how they can improve their tree care techniques with the workshop titled: Hard Core Arboriculture Fundamentals & Breakthroughs.

Some of the topics discussed during the workshop were (was) the history of tree climbing, (A)anthropology of tree climbers (the Oakman and the Eucman), managing the risk of rigging, working with historical trees and doing more with less in the time of shrinking budgets.

On Friday the learning continued with an Electrical Hazard Awareness Program (EHAP). This workshop certification allowed participants to fulfill OSHA safety requirements for working near utility lines (photo above).

Special thanks to all that helped make these events a success including speakers Don Blair and John Ball, Minnesota Society of Arboculture, Maier Forest and Tree, and Rochester Park and Rec. Check out the photos on the RNeighbors facebook page.

Thanks to everyone who came out and be sure to reserve February 21, 2013 for the next Winter RAW.

A Green Future

When attending RAW workshops, you’re not only getting innovative information but you’re creating opportunities for future caretakers of urban trees. A portion of the funds raised from RAW workshops go towards scholarships for arborist students.

RAW is a proud partner with RNeighbors, a Rochester, MN non-profit organization that provides tools to grow great neighborhoods. Our favorite program of theirs is RNeighborWoods, which empowers and educates the community to grow a sustainable urban forest, benefiting the health, social, and economic aspects of Rochester neighborhoods.
