Want to help brighten up a neighborhood?

Come on out to the Slatterly Park neighborhood at the intersection of 7th Street & 5th Ave SE by Hawthorne School this Saturday May 22.  No painting skills needed, all ages are welcome, you just need a willingness to paint in the lines and get to know some new people. Paint, brushes, and refreshments will be provided.

Slatterly Park was the first Rochester neighborhood to receive a street mural in 2007. It was done as a pilot project (requested by four different neighborhoods) and is now the grandfather of our City’s RColorful Corners street murals.  There are currently four street murals, and this summer all of these will be repainted and a fifth brand new mural will be created at the Multicultural Learning Center.

The paint used is specifically Valspar street paint and contains a high level of grit to ensure the finished mural won’t be slippery for motorists. RNeighbors wrote the grant through SMIF that awarded us 100 gallons for the 2010 mural season.

Each year the murals in our neighborhoods do need to be repainted; the whole point of this public art project is to bring neighbors together. So take a few hours out of your Saturday to help us add some color to this neighborhood!
