Starting a Neighborhood Association

RNeighbors is a small nonprofit with a volunteer Board that ensures the organization's strategic direction aligns with the mission.

The organization serves as an umbrella organization for the neighborhood associations in Rochester; and accomplishes its mission by providing resources for neighborhoods to organize around.

Why Start a

Neighborhood Association?

Rochester neighborhood associations play a vital role in representing residents' interests and enhancing the local community. A well-organized association can significantly impact the quality of life in a neighborhood and create a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive community where residents feel valued and engaged.

Starting a neighborhood association can be a rewarding way to foster community engagement, address local concerns, and enhance the quality of life in your area.

The benefits of a

Neighborhood Association

  • Included on our map of neighborhood associations, as well as on RNeighbors.org with a static page with boundaries, mission, and contact information.

  • Connections to City/County departments as needed, such as Public Works, Police, and Community Development.

  • Eligible for our Neighborhood Project Grants, as well as additional RNeighbors resources and guidance.

  • Social connections throughout your neighborhood build community, increasing safety and happiness.

  • Have a presence and a voice as Rochester grows. Your neighborhood can be involved, not simply have projects built up around you.

  • Every two years, you are eligible for ten 18″x 24″ plastic yard signs with your neighborhood association name and meeting information.

  • Receive neighborhood related news and access to the Neighborhood Toolkit.

  • Invited to the Council on Neighborhoods meetings.

How to Start a

Neighborhood Association

Identify Your Needs
Determine the specific needs of your neighborhood association. This could include funding for community events, beautification projects, safety initiatives, or permitting costs.

Create a Budget
Develop a detailed budget outlining how much money you need and what it will be used for. Potential donors will want to know exactly where their money will be going.

Build Relationships
Cultivate relationships with local businesses, residents, and other stakeholders in the community. Networking and building trust can help you secure donations and support.

Host Fundraising Events
Organize events such as bake sales, garage sales, community festivals, or charity auctions. These events can not only raise funds but also bring the community together.

We’d love to have your neighborhood included in our list. Registration is free and simple, and benefits are listed below. Neighborhoods work with RNeighbors to determine their association’s boundaries when forming. The registration form can be filled out below. We also provide neighborhood association guidelines for successful community organizing.
